As a group admin, you have full control over who can do what. Here's a complete overview of all settings – from name and icon to messaging permissions and member management.
Open Group Settings
Tap the group name at the top of the chat. As an admin, you'll see significantly more options than regular members.
Basic Settings
🏷️ Group Name
Up to 100 characters. Visible to all members and in shared invite links.
🖼️ Group Icon
Tap the icon to change it. Shown to all members and in the chat overview.
📝 Group Description
Up to 512 characters. Perfect for rules, purpose or important links. Shown before someone joins – your most important first impression.
Permissions – Who Can Do What?
These three settings control how open or closed your group is. Only admins can change them.

Disappearing Messages
WhatsApp can automatically delete messages after a set time. Only admins can enable this – it then applies to everyone.
Manage Members
Promote / Demote Admin
Tap member → "Make Group Admin" or "Dismiss as Admin"
Remove Member
Tap member → "Remove from Group"
Report Member
For violations, you can report members directly to WhatsApp
